Why do we believe in God?
My faith journey made me realize a simple reason for our belief in God.
Starting at a young age I have always been a believer in God. I grew up with God-fearing parents who believed God came first before everything and anything. In my pre-teen years, I never questioned anyone's religious beliefs, including my own. I didn’t know there was an option to not believe in God. That is until I reached my prime years — high school (note the sarcasm). It was in this moment, I stopped believing in God. Stopped going to church, stopped my daily prayers — I had my falling out with God.
Why did my relationship with God take a hit? A very common answer would be anywhere along the line of hormones or peer pressure, however when I go back now and reflect, I realize this was not the case for me. I stopped believing in God because I simply felt that I did not need Him. In high school, everything was fine, not perfect, but satisfactory for me. I got swamped with my academics, family, and just life in general, and everything was running smoothly. I couldn’t recognize the difference between who I was with God and without.
It wasn’t until I reached university, when things started to spiral, that I started to turn towards God. My world felt like it was collapsing, and I needed something to hold onto, and that for me was God…
