5 Turkish dramas you need to watch
Five of my favourite Turkish dramas that I strongly believe everyone should watch
Quarantine has us picking up on many different hobbies. Whether that be reading, learning a new skill, or knitting. For me, it was watching Turkish dramas. I am proud to say I have watched my fair share of Turkish dramas (over 15), so you may consider me on the spectrum of being an expert. Here are my top 5!
5. Kiralik Aşk
If you’ve watched the movie, Mutluluk Zamani (Time of Happiness), then you may be familiar with the excellent on-screen dynamic between Bariş Arduç and Elçin Sangu. However, it wasn’t until the release of my fifth favourite Turkish drama, Kiralik Ask (Love for Rent), that their acting became a major hit! So many people have watched this intense, romantic drama, and have loved it! Kiralik Ask is one of the well-known, iconic Turkish dramas, in my opinion, along with another drama, Erkenci Kus (Early Bird), that unfortunately did not make my top 5 but definitely deserves a view. Defne Topal who lives in a small home with her grandmother, and her siblings, finds herself desperately in need of a large amount of money to save her brother who is held captive. Coincidentally, she is offered a large amount of money to make a wealthy shoe designer, Ömer Iplikçi, fall in love with her and marry her. However, the catch is she must leave him as soon as the wedding is over. Forced to accept this offer, Defne must work hard to make this man fall in love with her, without falling in love herself. Consisting of, a phenomenal 69 episodes, this drama is filled with romance and comedy, as we watch Defne struggle to draw the line through her imaginary and actual life. Although very long, I highly recommend watching this drama — it is a tense, feel-good, comedic show that you don’t want to miss!
